Agriculture is the main activity in the Azores, playing a decisive role in the economic and social cohesion of the archipelago. The Utilised Agricultural Area (UAA) occupies around 120 thousand hectares with 13,541 farms.
The dairy sector accounts for over 30% of national production and farms have an average size of 28.2 head. Considering the size and characteristics of the archipelago, this is a valuable contribution, the result of a work of great dedication and commitment that has been developed by milk producers.
